If you can identify what the triggers are you can halt a panic attack in it's tracks

Identifying what causes your panic attacks is key to getting control back and stopping them. My wife used to get a panic attack at one certain junction while she was driving the car. That was an easy one to spot for her but yours may not be so obvious. But rest assured they are there and you can spot them.

 

Panic attacks & their causes are a throwback to thousands of years ago when we lived or died by being able to sense danger. The fight or flight syndrome.

 

When we get into a potentially dangerous situation we start to get symptoms similar to a panic attack. We need to decide quickly whether we stay and fight or whether we take flight and run. In those days chances are there was some real danger of death or serious injury but these days this is much less likely.

 

Sadly the fight or flight syndrome remains and can manifest itself in certain people as a panic attack. But because there's no real danger we don't really understand what's going on and the panic snowballs.

Your panic attack causes & triggers could be as trivial as being stood in a queue somewhere and feeling a little too hot. It really could be as simple as that. The feeling spirals and rapidly turns into a panic attack.

 

You may have had a really bad experience in the past at a certain place and it could be when you approach this place the symptoms may start. You may not even remember the bad experience you had, but your subconcious mind does.

 

If you can learn to spot these triggers you can start practising techniques right away. Techniques that will minimise and eventually stop these symptoms turning into a full blown attack.
