What exactly is a panic attack? What exactly is anxiety disorder?

I think it's pretty safe to say you can group a panic attack and an anxiety disorder as the same thing. It's just that some people call it one thing, some call it another thing. Doesn't really make it two different things.

We all get some sort of nervousness now and again in our daily lives. Say you were waiting for a job interview or a hospital appointment, you are going to get anxious. It's a totally natural thing and isn't really a problem most of the time.

When the problems start is when you start to become anxious more and more often. Sometimes getting anxious at the most trivial of things. This anxiousness grows and festers and turns into mild panic. Which if left to grow on it's own will turn into some nasty looking panic attacks.

When you get to this stage you are going to be suffering some horrible mentral torture. In the back of your mind you know it's an irrational fear, yet you are having the symptoms right there. Rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, sweating, total panic. The urge to run and scream is right there just beneath the surface.

Can anything be done about panic attacks & anxiety disorders?

Yes, there is help available for panic attacks and anxiety disorders. Your doctor will probably give you a course of medication to lessen the symptoms. A popular drug to do this is called a Beta Blocker. It works by keeping your heart beat from raging out of control. It won't actually stop the panic attack or cure them. It is merely a short term crutch. Stop taking the drugs and you are back to where you started.

There are other typres of drugs your doctor may try but again these will not cure the attacks. Merely mask the symptoms. Of course all the drugs that your doctor may try come with potential nasty side effects. Read about some of them by clicking here.

The only way to really cure your anxiety disorder is to take back control. When you feel an attack starting you go through the steps you have learned to kill it in it's tracks. In time you can get so good at recognising a coming attack that you can merely brush it aside and get on with your day. How good does that sound?

Not doing something about your panic disorder is probably worse than taking prescribed drugs (with side effects) as you can quickly slip into such a poor mental state you will find it very hard to recover.

It can & will destroy your life if you let it. But, you don't have to let it destroy you, do you?

Panic attacks don't discriminate, they can hit anyone at any time. I know only too well, I was a passenger in the car with my wife driving when a panic attack hit her out of the blue. I'm sure you know exactly how that feels?

We decided to fight back and get control and my wife now knows techniques to totally control any sign of an attack.

I wish you the best of luck on your quest for an end to your anxiety disorder.

Alex
