It may well be one of the scariest things you've seen, your child having an anxiety attack!

But, you certainly are not powerless to help your child. There are techniques that you can use to get these attacks under control.

Anxiety symptoms in children usually come in the shape of either physical symptoms like sickness and headaches, or in the form of emotional symptoms like nervousness and fear, or possibly both physical & emotional.

A severe anxiety disorder in your child can affect them in many ways. It can cause all manner of problems, like blood pressure, heart rate, stomach upsets (even ulcers) and shortness of breath.

It can also affect their general mental state, affecting their concentration levels and their learning capabilities. It can even effect decision making and the way they view the world around them.

If you think you are seeing anxiety symptoms in your child then as a parent you need to act. As parents we make a very big decision to bring a human life into the world and only too often some parents find they either can't handle or don't want to handle the responsibilty.

But it is our responsibilty alone (and it is a big one) to look after as best we can, our children. It's your responsibility to seek the best (and in my opinion, drug free) help you can find for your child if they are showing any of the anxiety symptoms mentioned.

What can cause anxiety symptoms in children?

There are many causes of anxiety in children, among them are genetic predisposition, environmental factors and even psychological factors. Many children will not report bullying until it's too late, this can be a huge factor.

Among the mainstream treatments for childhood anxiety symptoms include seeing a psychotherapist and/or medication.

I personally would prefer to use any other drug & shrink free method that I could get my hands on first. I certainly would not like to subject my child to any prolonged drug regimen. Neither would I want them to suffer the stigma of having to see a shrink.

Identifying real anxiety symptoms from normal childhood stresses.

Of course children have normal stresses when they are growing up. First day at school and discovering they don't like the dark, or don't like spinach!

This is where you must asses your childs symptoms and if need be, seek professional help to properly identify any possible symptoms.

Normal everyday stresses become anxiety symptoms when they start to affect your childs everyday life. Everyday things like going to school and making friends and sleeping habits.

Once again we (as parents) have a duty of care to our own children, and we must strive to identify these symptoms before they take hold and do potentially lasting damage.

Our kids are the future, don't fail them!
